Burning Sword: Death Sun, developed and published by Nomadic Games, is accepting Beta applications as of today for PC. This is done via a google document, different from a lot of the newer games using Steam's Playtest Request feature. Marvel Rivals also had the google doc application for their beta. I've signed up for many betas via these forms over the years just so ya know. It's normal but not as common these days.
Burning Sword: Death Sun is a Wuxia themed hack-and-slash souls-like. There is currently no release date but it is planned for this year. Nomadic Games just announced today that the Closed Beta starts today and ends on the 24th. Normally, beta signups happen before the beta goes live. I'm guessing these guys might be new to that, so that's okay. It'll happen.
There's also a demo available on the Steam page. I left a comment asking what's different between the demo and the beta. I'll update this post if and when I get an answer. I had a thought that maybe the demo is the beta but that doesn't explain why they'd ask people to register via a google doc.
I'm not a big souls-like fan. I've enjoyed the games from time to time but I quickly get bored of them just because I'm not a fan of how the campfire system works and bosses that can one-shot you. To me, that is just stupid. We can call it preference. I'm more interested in boss phases and overall game mechanics than I am with making sure I don't get hit a single time. I like enemy respawns, I just don't really care for the campfire system. I have put twenty to forty hours into each Dark Souls title as well as a lot of other similar games. The one I've played most is Bloodborne cuz I really enjoyed the environments in that one. So, I do tend to check these types of games out, especially when I like the style. I really love Wuxia themed stories and stuff which is why I've been following Burning Sword: Death Sun. It looks really good. I just prefer normal hack-and-slash games like the older God of Wars, Bayonetta, Nier: Automata, Xuan-Yuan Sword VII, that kind of thing.
I will likely check the demo out but I don't have plans to try and get into a deeper beta. There is no information on a console release at this time. Click here if you want to view the official announcement as well as the beta registration link. Let me know what you think of the game if you give it a try. Thanks for reading. Game on.
