"Pioner" Looks So Good | New Trailer and Beta Signups Available

Pioner, developed and published by GFAGames, is an MMO sci-fi first-person-shooter with both dynamic PvE and PvP game elements set in a post-apocalyptic alternate reality with gorgeous and enigmatic environments and creatures.

Players will be able to explore an open world with hidden dungeons while earning loyalty rewards and unlocking new narrative content by doing jobs for different factions. Side content will include mini-games such as fishing and casino-like games.

Pioner's main (seemingly) PvP mode is called Shadowlands and it sounds a lot like the Dark Zone in The Division. There is mention of other PvP arenas as well but there are no further details right now. Weapons are said to have a large variety of modules and designs and you'll also be able to craft new weapons and equipment.

The gameplay is described as "where realism takes priority over traditional health bars or character levels," where players will have to "maintain your character’s strength by managing hunger, rest, and resources, adding a strategic layer to survival."

Sadly, for me, the "realism" is where Pioner loses me. Hunger is easily one of my least favorite elements in a video game. It's just tedious and boring micro-managing. That said, I used to enjoy that type of thing when I was younger. It's one of the things I enjoyed about the original Resident Evil games, the micro-management. I'm just no longer entertained or interested in that type of thing. I did really enjoy the gasoline mechanic in Days Gone, though. Mostly cuz while I had to manage it, gas wasn't that rare once I started to remember to keep an eye out for it. The "realism" in Pioner doesn't interest me but the rest of the game sure does and I do plan to try it. It looks incredible.

You can sign up for the Beta Test now. There is currently no specific release date for the game or when the beta starts. It is planned for release this year, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox S/X, and PC. Thanks for reading. Game on.
