Empyreal is an upcoming single-player sci-fi third-person action RPG developed by Silent Games and published by Secret Mode. You'll explore an unknown planet and dive into hand-crafted dungeons that offer randomly generated loot, the amount of lives you'll have, enemy types, element types, and boss fights.
Empyreal allows you to create your character, choosing from hair styles and colors, body type, makeup, and scars. You also get to choose from different character backgrounds. The background won't effect your gameplay in a drastic way but it does get you started with a certain playstyle and a role of your preference.
You'll begin the game in a quest hub with multiple NPCs that have their own stories and questlines. Each of these questlines are deep with their own endings, including multiple endings depending on your choices, and they can be failed.
There are three weapon types in Empyreal that have their own abilities and playstyle: the Cannon, Mace & Shield, and the Glaive. You can change weapons at any time once you have looted them. Along with the weapons, you'll also unlock separate abilities you can pick and choose and equip four at a time. This will add to being able to customize your playstyle. Combat will involve the option to perform perfect attacks, parries, and extra effects on some abilities that are timed perfectly.
While Empyreal is a single-player game, it does offer a little bit of interaction with others players that will be playing the game. You can use a Mail system to send items you don't want or need to friends. You'll encounter spectres of other players and have a chance to provide them with a buff of some kind. Also, every time you beat a boss you'll have the opportunity to donate an item you don't want or need into an Aether (portal) which will receive an upgrade to its stats before being given to a random player. Donating an item does not provide you with any rewards other than maybe helping another player out. I really like this feature, it sounds neat to me. There will be a New Game Plus with some features that were not available in the first playthrough.
You can try the demo right now on Steam. I'm not sure if there's a demo on console as well. It's not coming up in a search for me. I've been meaning to try this demo but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I've been playing a lot of demos and other games. I will get around to this. It looks awesome.
Secret Mode has partnered with something called "Just" to offer cash rewards to players for creating content and maybe even a weapon for the game. Check out the offers and rewards here.
Empyreal is planned to release on May 8th, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox S/X, and PC. Thanks for reading. Game on.
